Conservatory Bridging Scaffolding

Scaffolding Over a Conservatory in Kent & South East London

Specialist bridging scaffolding over conservatories to access the main house roof across Kent and South East London. Glass protection and weight distribution.

Scaffolding over a conservatory

Many homeowners across Kent and South East London have a rear conservatory that blocks access to the main house roof. When roof repairs, reroofing, chimney work or other maintenance is required on the rear elevation, the conservatory makes it impossible to erect a standard scaffold from ground level. The solution is a bridging scaffold that spans over the conservatory to reach the main roof.

Scaffolding over a conservatory is a specialist operation that requires careful planning and the right equipment. The scaffold must span the full width of the conservatory without loading the conservatory roof, which is typically glass or polycarbonate and cannot support the weight of a scaffold. We use a bridging system that transfers the scaffold loads to the ground on either side of the conservatory.

We provide conservatory bridging scaffolding across Kent and South East London from our base in Hextable.

How conservatory bridging scaffolding works

A standard scaffold cannot be erected on top of a conservatory roof because the glass or polycarbonate panels cannot support the load. Instead, we erect scaffold standards (vertical poles) on either side of the conservatory and use horizontal beams to bridge across the top, creating a platform that spans the conservatory without touching the roof.

The bridging scaffold is then used as the base for the main scaffold that gives access to the rear elevation of the house and the roof. The conservatory roof is protected throughout the works.

  • Standards erected on either side of the conservatory
  • Horizontal beams bridge across the conservatory without loading the roof
  • Main scaffold erected from the bridging platform
  • Conservatory roof protected throughout the works
  • Access to the full rear elevation and roof maintained

Types of conservatory we bridge

Glass roof conservatories

Traditional glass roof conservatories are the most common type. The glass panels cannot support any load, so the bridging scaffold must span the full width without touching the roof.

Polycarbonate roof conservatories

Polycarbonate roof conservatories are lighter than glass but still cannot support scaffold loads. We use the same bridging approach for polycarbonate roofs.

Solid roof conservatories

Some conservatories have been converted to solid roofs (tiled or flat). These may be able to support some scaffold load, but we will always assess the structure before erecting the scaffold.

Lean-to conservatories

Lean-to conservatories attached to the rear wall of the house. We provide bridging scaffolding for lean-to conservatories of all sizes.

Large orangeries

Large orangeries and garden rooms with glass or polycarbonate roofs. We can bridge over larger structures where required.

Work we access via conservatory bridging scaffolding

Rear roof repairs and reroofing

The most common reason for conservatory bridging scaffolding. Access to the rear slope of the main roof for tile replacement, felt replacement and full reroofing.

Rear chimney stack repairs

Chimney stacks on the rear elevation of the house require access from the rear. We provide bridging scaffolding that gives access to the rear chimney stack.

Rear wall rendering and repointing

Render repairs and repointing on the rear elevation of the house. We provide bridging scaffolding that gives access to the full height of the rear wall.

Rear fascia and gutter replacement

Replacing fascias, soffits and gutters on the rear elevation. We provide bridging scaffolding that gives access to the eaves level.

Rear extension roof works

Works to the roof of a rear extension that is adjacent to or connected to a conservatory.

Conservatory bridging scaffolding costs

Conservatory bridging scaffolding is more expensive than a standard scaffold because of the specialist equipment and additional planning required. The cost depends on the width and height of the conservatory, the height of the main roof, the scope of the works and the duration of the hire. We provide free, no-obligation quotations.

  • Width and height of the conservatory
  • Height of the main house roof
  • Scope of the works on the rear elevation
  • Duration of the scaffolding hire
  • Access constraints — garden access and neighbouring properties
